Malaysians, Indonesians and the Dutch come neck to neck claiming the origins of this delicacy. We’re not too worried about who invented this painstakingly difficult cake to bake; but Delectable intends to keep the traditions of this Kuih lapis; or some call it the Thousand layer cake; passed down by Su’s master baker Aunt from Ipoh. It’s a secret family recipe; perfected through the decades of her hard work, with just the right amount of sweetness and spice. Aptly named AhPa’s cabinet because it was literally hand measured, cut and nailed together by Su’s dad and his team of carpenters. We only have as many as we can make until they go on their break at Chinese New Year but we will try to have enough of them to go around. Carpentry work had started about a month ago; and we’re so happy with how cute our New year goodies look in them.
